The Central Hotel in Gdańsk is a friendly and modern hotel, right next to the train station in Gdańsk. It features a brewery and a restaurant.

The rooms

The room size is ok, rooms include a bathroom.

Every room has a keycard lock, with a color-coded panel outside which shows if room cleaning is requested, or the do-not-disturb mode is on. Next to the door is a keycard holder, in which the room card must be placed in order for the electric outlets to function. This system only works with hotel room cards.

Every room has air conditioning, which is controlled on a panel in the room. The AC can’t be turned off, except by removing the keycard - which then also turns off the other outlets like lights and bathroom.

There is a small frigdge in the room, a TV, a safe in the closet, and a water kettle on the desk.

Both the AC control panel as well as the door control panel are illuminated at all times. This makes it impossible to get a “dark room” without lights at night, both panels unnecessarily lighten up the room.

The heating in the bathroom is controlled by the AC, and can’t be turned off, or adjusted. On the bright side, the bathroom is always well temperatured. The bathroom itself is large enough, with a table along one side of the room.

Room Security

The hotel features digital keys on a plastic card. Doors are unlocked by tapping the card against the reader next to the door.

This display also shows the “please clean the room” and the “do not disturb” signs, which are controlled from another panel on the inside of the room.

Unfortunately the rooms do not provide any physical security, like a door lock or a latch. This is uncommon for hotel rooms.

Hotel services

The reception area is not in the main hall, but in an extra room to the left. This room is both a sitting area and a small library, and provides a warm welcome.

There is only one lift - and a staircase - in the hotel, however the lift is unusual fast. No long waiting times for opening and closing doors, and it’s moving quickly up and down.

Breakfast is offered in the restaurant, and includes a considerable sized buffet.

There is the Craft Beer Central Hotel Gdańsk in the hotel, the beer is available at the restaurant as well.

A conference area features two rooms on the first floor, for up to 90 people each.

The hotel also has a gym on the third floor. This was closed in March 2025 for renovation.

Around the hotel

Stepping out of the hotel, one can see the main train station (Gdańsk Główny), only a few steps away. The train station is in an old, renovated building with a large clock tower.

The main bus station for long-distance coaches (Gdansk Central Bus Station) is on the other side of the train station, you pass through the pedestrian tunnel under the train station and cross the 3 Maja street.

Also on this side of the train station is the Hevelianum, an old fort and city fortification, which is a science and conference center today. From here once has a good view across the city, as the fort is on a hill.

Across the train station is a shopping center with a Biedronka supermarket.

How to get to the Hotel Central

Given the “central” location, it’s best to travel here by train, tram or bus. The hotel is conveniently located for public transport.

Between the hotel and the train station are a number of car parking spaces. In front of the train station one can find a number of cabs.

Summary

A clean and friendly hotel conveniently located in the city, which provides for a good nights rest. Minus point for the missing locks on the door.
