The Rakáki Restaurant (Greek: Ρακάκι) is a nice, little restaurant in the Kesariani suburban area of Athens. It has indoor and covered outdoor seating, and is not near the touristic areas. The outdoor seating area is across the sidewalk, and has heaters for when the weather is a bit colder.

Menu was brand new when we visited the restaurant, plenty of typical mediterranean choices. They have music playing, which is a bit loud inside, but still good enough to be able to talk with each other.

The restaurant is open every day, from around noon to past midnight. If you plan to eat with a larger group, better make a reservation.

Our local guide picked this restaurant for the Organizers Dinner for the PGConf.EU 2024 conference in Athens. That was Oktober 21st, 2024. It’s about 15 minutes walking from the conference venue, which is ok. Some of the side streets in the city can do with more street lamps though.

We decided to share starters for the table, this allows everyone to try everything.

Kalitsounia are small herb or cheese or snacks, the filling can vary.

Patates Tiganites are the Greek version of French Fries, made with Greek Olive Oil.

Greek Fava is a puree made from yellow split peas.

Apaki is traditional Cretan smoked meat.

Staka is made from goats’ or sheep’s milk with a rich, white cream. It has he consistency of pudding and is usually served hot. Goes well with bread.

As main course I ordered Garlic Mushrooms with bread.

As dessert I ordered a delicious Chocolate souffle with vanilla ice cream, but I have to say that this alone almost counts as a full meal!

All in all one of these evenings with good friends and good talks in a good restaurant. What else can one ask for?
